About Double Glazing
What Is Double Glazing
Double glazing is the process in which a sealed unit is made with two panes of glass with a space between them.
The space between the glass is usually 20mm wide. In most cases dry air is trapped between the panes and forms a layer of insulation.
During the manufacturing of the sealed unit a drying agent is added to ensure that no moisture is present inside the finished glass unit.
In today’s world argon gas is used instead of normal air to increase the thermal efficiency of the sealed unit. Around 65% of heat loss in the home occurs through standard, single pane windows.
Double glazing is highly effective at stopping heat loss and keeps those “cold spots” at bay. Double glazing is also very friendly to the environment.
Standard residential properties cause around 28% of all carbon dio-oxide emissions, and replacing single glazed windows helps to reduce these emissions and combat energy loss. As well as saving on heating bills, double glazing will reduce noise pollution and internal condensation.
